Arizona is known for its dry and arid climate. The summers are incredibly hot, especially in southern cities like Phoenix, where average highs reach above 100 degrees. To enjoy the state’s more temperate weather, plan your trip during the spring or fall. Throughout these transitional seasons, temperatures peak in the mid-60’s to the mid-70’s. The winters in Arizona regularly boast lows below freezing and highs in the low 60’s. In northern Arizona close to the Grand Canyon, the highs and lows are regularly 20 degrees cooler than its southern half.

At Frontdesk, you can easily find a short-term rental in Arizona that is a quick drive from the nearest airport. If you’re planning a trip to Phoenix, Tempe, or Scottsdale, look for flights at the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX). PHX is centrally located just three miles southeast of downtown Phoenix. Many of the most popular domestic airlines have routes to and from PHX, including JetBlue, Southwest, American, Delta, Spirit, and more. You can also travel internationally from Sky Harbor using airlines like Eurowing and Air Canada.

The Grand Canyon, Arizona’s most famous landmark, is a three and a half-hour drive from Phoenix. Take in the natural beauty from one of the scenic outlooks, explore miles of hiking trails, or get a bird’s eye view from the basket of a hot air balloon. There’s plenty to experience in the cities, too. If you’re in Phoenix, spend the day walking around the Desert Botanical Garden or learning about Native American culture at the Heard Museum. No trip to Tempe would be complete without stopping at the Mill Avenue District or the Tempe Town Lake. For those who are heading to Scottsdale, you won’t want to skip Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin West building or the Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West.

The food of Arizona embodies the rich traditions of those native to the Southwest. The restaurants in the state serve recipes inspired by Native Americans, Mexicans, Spanish colonial settlers, and cowboys. While visiting the area, refuel with traditional dishes like chile con carne, menudo, nachos, and chimichangas. Phoenix is home to so many outstanding restaurants like Cocina Madrigal, Rusconi’s American Kitchen, and Rosita’s Place. In Scottsdale, grab breakfast at Butters Pancake & Cafe and treat yourself to dinner at Cafe Monarch. If you’re heading to Tempe, make a reservation at Yupha’s Thai Kitchen, Vincitorio’s Restaurant, or House of Tricks.
